SERVICE OF LIGHT
Greeting/Invocation
We light the EASTER CANDLE for the last time and sing:
Christ our Light!
~Thanks be to God!
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, alleluia!
~And kindle in us the fire of your love, alleluia!
HYMN FOR PENTECOST
Come down, O Spirit, Love Divine,
And fill the hearts that you have made;
Convert, transform and purify
The souls of all who ask your aid.
You gave the trembling twelve your light
And filled their hearts with ardent love.
O come and fill us with your gifts
And lead us to our home above.
We beg you, Holy Paraclete,
To check the rush of passion’s fires,
To melt the steel of hardened hearts,
To fill our wills with your desires.
Baptismal grace brought you to dwell
In mortal temples, hearts of clay;
Depose the idols throned therein
And prompt us by your grace to pray.
As Paraclete you comfort us,
O Gift of God, sent by our Lord;
Eternal fount of burning zeal,
Life’s healing ointment and reward
Through You alone can we perceive
The Abba and Beloved Son;
And beg You, their vibrant bond of love:
In persons three, in Godhead one.
O friends, lift up your hearts and souls
To praise the Blessed Trinity;
And beg the Word to send to us
The Spirit of Divinity. Amen.

SERVICE OF THE WORD
Evening Psalmody
Antiphon
When the days of Pentecost were drawing to a close,
they were all together in one place. Alleluia!
109/110
Adonai, to the One who will reign:
“Come and be My companion;
We will undo selfishness and sin.”
The Spirit will bring from Zion
The power and strength to save:
Love changing foes into friends.
Precious from the day of your birth
on the holy mountain;
from the womb before the dawn I begot you.
The Promise holds true forever:
Your ministry is Loving-Kindness–
A priest like Melchizedek of old.
Companions of the Most High are ready
To liberate all who suffer from evil.
The One who calls us to justice
Invites us to join in the struggle:
Enlightening all who are unaware of the truth.
Drink from streams of Living Water,
Lift your head and celebrate the feast.
Glory to the ONE and to the WORD
And to the BREATH of Love!
As always before,
so now and evermore. Amen
When the days of Pentecost were drawing to a close,
they were all together in one place. Alleluia!
Antiphon Two
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak. Alleluia!
Psalm 110/111
I will thank Adonai with all my heart
wherever the just meet or assemble.
Great are your works O my God;
a delight to explore and ponder.
Your creation is majestic and glorious
Your justice remains forever.
Who can forget your wonders!
filled with compassion and love!
You give food to all the faithful,
ever-mindful of your sacred covenant.
You revealed your strength to this people
by giving them land among the nations.
You rule with justice and truth;
Your decrees are helpful and certain;
each law reveals you can be trusted
and can be lived with faith and assurance.
Adonai has delivered this people
and established a covenant for ever.
Your holy Name fills us with awe!
Reverence for the Holy One is the beginning of wisdom,
wise are those who know how to live it!
Praise Adonai forever!
Glory to the ONE and to the WORD
And to the BREATH of Love!
As always before,
so now and evermore. Amen
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak. Alleluia!
Canticle from the Book of Revelation
Antiphon
The Spirit of our God
has filled the whole world. Alleluia!
You are worthy O Lord our God,
to receive all glory and honor and power.
For you created all things;
by your Word they were created and have their being.
You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals,
Because you were slain,
and by your blood you have ransomed for God
people from every tribe and language and nation;
you have made of them a priestly people to serve our God
and to reign with justice upon the earth.
Worthy is the Lamb,
the Lamb that was slain
to receive all power and wealth,
wisdom and might,
honor and glory and praise.
Praise and honor, glory and power,
to the One who sits upon the throne
and to the Lamb who was slain
and to the Spirit-Breath of Love
as always before
so now and evermore, Amen.
The Spirit of our God
has filled the whole world. Alleluia!
READING ROMANS 8: 25-27
The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the very Spirit of God intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the One who searches hearts knows what the Spirit intends, because the Spirit intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will.
Responsory
R. Since you are children of God through faith in Christ Jesus, *God has sent the Spirit of the Son into your hearts, crying “Abba, Source of my Life!” alleluia! R. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of Power and Love and Self-control: * *God has sent the Spirit of the Son into your hearts, crying “Abba, Source of my Life!” alleluia! V. Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Holy Breath of Love.
Gospel Canticle
Antiphon
The Love of God has been poured forth
in our hearts by the Spirit who is living in us, Alleluia!
Canticle of Mary
My heart + is radiant with the Lord,
My whole being delights in God my Savior.
All people now will call me blessed
For God has loved this humble handmaid.
The Almighty has shown me great favor
Holy is the NAME,
Whose mercy embraces the faithful,
From one generation to the next.
The mighty arm of God,
Scatters the proud in their own conceit,
Pulls tyrants from their thrones
While lifting up the lowly:
Fills the famished with bounty,
And reveals the emptiness of riches.
Rescues lowly Israel,
Sharing such loving kindness,
As promised to our ancestors
To Abraham and Sarah, and their descendants forever.
Glory to the One and to the Word
And to the Breath of Love
As always before
So now and evermore. Amen
The Love of God has been poured forth
in our hearts by the Spirit who is living in us, Alleluia!
