WEEK XXV St. Wenceslaus

September 28 – St. Wenceslaus (907-935)

Invitation to Worship

Come, Let us sing to Adonai, let us praise the God of all Creation!

O Holy ONE + open my lips,

~And my mouth will declare  your praise.

 MORNING HYMN

All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .

I sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise;

That spread the flowing sea abroad, and built the lofty skies.

I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;

The moon shines full at God’s command and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of our God that filled the earth with food;

Who formed the creatures with a word and then pronounced them good.

God, how your wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eye:

If I survey the ground I tread or gaze upon the sky!

There’s not a plant or flower below but makes your glories known;

And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from your throne;

While all that borrows life from thee Is ever in your care,

And everywhere that we can be, You, God are present there.

PSALMODY

Antiphon

O My Strength, it is you to whom I turn

for you, O God, are my stronghold, the One who gives me life!

Psalm 30/31

In you, Adonai, I take refuge.

Let me never be put to shame.

In your justice, set me free,

hear me and speedily rescue me.

Be a rock of refuge for me,

a mighty stronghold to save me,

for you are my rock, my stronghold.

For your name’s sake, lead me and guide me.

Release me from the snares they have hidden

for you are my refuge.

Into your hands I commend my spirit.

It is you who will redeem me, O God.

How great is the goodness, Adonai,

that you keep for those who revere you,

that you show to those who trust you

in the sight of mortals.

You hide them in the shelter of your presence

from the plotting of others;

you keep them safe within your tent

from disputing tongues.

Blessed be Adonai who has shown me

the wonders of such great love

in a fortified city.

I am far removed from your sight

I said in my alarm.

Yet you heard the voice of my plea

when I cried for help.

Love Adonai, all you saints.

God guards the faithful

but will repay to the full

those who act with pride.

Be strong, let your heart take courage,

all who hope in Adonai.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love;

As always before

so now, and evermore. Amen.

O My Strength, it is you to whom I turn

for you, O God, are my stronghold, the One who gives me life!

READING   Jeremiah 15:19-20

If you come back and I take you back, in my presence you shall stand;

If you utter what is precious and not what is worthless, you shall be my mouth.

Then they will be the ones who turn to you, not you who turn to them.

And I will make you toward this people a fortified wall of bronze.

Though they fight against you, they shall not prevail,

For I am with you, to save and rescue you…

Silent Prayer

Canticle of Zachary–  Luke 1:68-79

Blest be the God of Israel who comes to set us free

and raises up new hope for us: a Branch for David’s tree.

So have the prophets long declared that with a mighty arm

God  would turn back our enemies and all who wish us harm.

With promised mercy will God still the covenant recall,

the oath once sworn to Abraham from foes to save us all;

that we might worship without fear and offer lives of praise,

in holiness and righteousness to serve God all our days.

My child, as prophet of the Lord you will prepare the way,

to tell God’s people they are saved from sin’s eternal sway.

Then shall God’s mercy from on high shine forth and never cease

to drive away the gloom of death and lead us into peace.
