SERVICE OF LIGHT

Greeting/Invocation

 We light the EVENING CANDLE and say or sing:

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World!

~The Light no darkness can extinguish!

You have given them Bread from heaven, alleluia!

~Having all sweetness within it, alleluia!

HYMN FOR CORPUS CHRISTI

Abba, we thank you, for you’ve planted

Your holy Name within our hearts.

Knowledge and faith and life immortal

Jesus, your Own, to us imparts.

O God who made all for your pleasure,

And gave us food for all our days:

Giving in Christ the Bread eternal;

Yours is the  power, be yours the praise.

Watch o’er your People, God, in mercy,

Save us from evil, guard us still;

Perfect us in your love, unite us,

Cleansed and conformed unto your will.

As grain once scattered  on the  hill sides,

Was in this broken bread made one,

So from all lands your Church be gathered

Into your Kin-dom by your Son.

SERVICE OF THE WORD

Evening Psalmody

Antiphon

Christ our Love, Priest forever

according to the order of Melchizedech,

offered bread and wine.

Psalm 109/110

Adonai, to the One who will reign:

“Come and be My companion;

We will undo selfishness and sin.”

The Spirit will bring from Zion

The power and strength to save:

Love changing foes into friends.

Precious from the day of your birth

on the holy mountain;

from the womb before the dawn I begot you.

The Promise holds true forever:

Your ministry is Loving-Kindness–

A priest like Melchizedek of old.

Companions of the Most High are ready

To liberate all who suffer from evil.

The One who calls us to justice

Invites us to join in the struggle:

Enlightening all who are unaware of the truth.

Drink from streams of Living Water,

Lift your head and celebrate the feast.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

Christ our Love, Priest forever

according to the order of Melchizedech,

offered bread and wine.

Antiphon Two

Our merciful Love has given food to those who are reverent,

as a memorial of such wondrous deeds.

 Psalm 110/111

I will thank Adonai with all my heart

wherever the just meet or assemble.

Great are your works O my God;

a delight to explore and ponder.

Your creation is majestic and glorious

Your justice remains forever.

Who can forget your wonders!

filled with compassion and love!

You give food  to all the faithful,

ever-mindful of your sacred covenant.

You revealed your strength to this people

by giving them land among the nations.

You rule with justice and truth;

Your decrees are helpful and certain;

each law reveals you can be trusted

and can be lived with faith and assurance.

Adonai has delivered this people

and established a covenant for ever.

Your holy Name fills us with awe!

Reverence for the Holy One is the beginning of wisdom,

wise are those who know how to live it!

Praise Adonai forever!

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

Our merciful Love has given food to those who are reverent,

as a memorial of such wondrous deeds.

Antiphon Three

The Lord who grants peace in the borders of this People,

fills us with the best of wheat.

 Psalm 147

O Praise Adonai,  Jerusalem,

Zion, praise the Holy One.

God’s-Love gives strength to the little ones,

And courage to face their fears.

Peace to be their sure refuge,

Golden wheat to share at the feast.

God’s-Word cuts through the resistance

That fosters greed and conceit;

Sends snow heavy as wool

And scatters frost like ashes;

Hurls down hail like crumbs,

Freezes the waters with Winter.

God’s-Word melts them with Spring,

God’s-Breath makes the waters flow.

The Word is written on our hearts

To guide us with wisdom and justice;

That together we may share with all people

God’s ways of justice and truth.

Glory to the Abba and the Word

and the Holy Breath of Love.

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen.

The Lord who grants peace in the borders of this People,

fills us with the best of wheat.

READING       I CORINTHIANS 10: 16-17

The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ?
The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body,
for we all partake of the one loaf.

Responsory

R.  As we meet together * Alleluia, Alleluia.

V. Is it not the Lord’s Supper that we share? * Alleluia, Alleluia.

V.  Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Holy Breath of Love.

Gospel Canticle

Antiphon

O Holy Banquet in which Christ is received!

In which the memory of his Passion is renewed,

in which the soul is filled with grace

and a pledge of future glory is given us, Alleluia!

Canticle of Mary

My heart + is radiant with the Lord,

My whole being delights in God my Savior.

All people now will call me blessed

For God has loved this humble handmaid.

The Almighty has shown me great favor

Holy is the NAME,

Whose mercy embraces the faithful,

From one generation to the next.

The mighty arm of God,

Scatters the proud in their own conceit,

Pulls tyrants from their thrones

While lifting up the lowly:

Fills the famished with bounty,

And reveals the emptiness of riches.

Rescues lowly Israel,

Sharing such loving kindness,

As promised to our ancestors

To Abraham and Sarah, and their descendants forever.

Glory to the One and to the Word

And to the Breath of Love

As always before

So now and evermore. Amen

O Holy Banquet in which Christ is received!

In which the memory of his Passion is renewed,

in which the soul is filled with grace

and a pledge of future glory is given us, Alleluia!

Those who wish may end evening prayer with the Salve Regina

Marian Antiphon

Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae, Vita dulcedo et Spes nostra, salve!

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae; Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes in hac lacrimarum vale. Eia, ergo, Advocata nostra, illos tuos misericordes oculos, ad nos converte; et Jesum benedictum fructum ventris tui, nobis, post hoc exilium ostende.  O Clemens, O Pia, O Dulcis Virgo Maria!

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God;

~ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.  Holy, Mighty and Immortal God, through the working of the Holy Spirit, you prepared the body and soul of the glorious virgin Mother Mary, as a worthy dwelling for your Word; grant that we, who celebrate her memory each evening, may with the help of her prayers, be freed from ever-present evil, and come to share the fulness of life eternal.   Amen.
