SOLEMNITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI

Eucharist bread wine

 Invitation to Worship

The Body of Christ, the Bread of Life!  Come, let us adore him!

O Holy One, open my lips

~ and my mouth will proclaim your praise.

You have given them bread from heaven, alleluia!

~having all sweetness within it, alleluia!

Morning Hymn for Corpus Christi

The Word of God proceeding forth Yet leaving not his Abba’s side,

Went forth upon his work of love And labored there until he died.

His enemies were gathering; He was betrayed by one he loved.

Before he died he gave them food: His own most sacred flesh and blood.

He gave them there the living bread; He let them drink the precious wine

To feed their bodies and their souls To walk in strength with love divine.

His human birth made us his friends At table he becomes our food.

He paid our ransom with his blood; He will himself be our reward.

O Saving Victim — Sacrifice, Who opened heaven’s gate for us.

Our fears press on from every side; Save us, Our Love, in you we trust!

Unending glory be to you, Immortal Godhead One in Three,

May we who share this feast of love rejoice with you eternally.

Text: VERBUM SUPERNUM Thomas Aquinas, tr. SSSF (1965) alt.; Tune: GREATEST GUEST. L.M. Mode VIII

PSALMODY

Antiphon/Refrain

O Jesus, Gentle Shepherd, and Living Bread,

feed us, guide us to the land of everlasting life.

O Love you are my Shepherd,

there is nothing I shall want.

Fresh and green are the pastures where you give me repose.

You have prepared me a banquet

in the face of all that I fear,

my head you have anointed with precious oil and my cup is overflowing.

Surely goodness and kindness

shall follow me all my days,

in the Heart of your Love shall I dwell, forever and ever.

READING   Malachi 1:11

From the rising of the sun to its setting,

my Name is great among the nations;

And everywhere they bring sacrifice to my Name,

and a pure offering;

For great is my name among the nations, says Adonai Sabbaoth!

Responsory

R.  Taste and see the sweetness of our God.

V.  I will bless Adonai at all times, God’s praise always on my lips. In Adonai my soul shall make its boast, the humble shall hear and be glad.

GOSPEL CANTICLE

Antiphon

Any who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life,

and I shall raise them up on the last day.  Alleluia, Alleluia!

Canticle of Zachariah

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen.

Any who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life,

and I shall raise them up on the last day.  Alleluia, Alleluia!
