Invitation to Worship

Let us praise our God in the witness of blessed Martin!

We make the Sign of the Cross over our  lips as we begin.

O Holy ONE + open my lips,

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Awake my soul and sing;

~ With God’s praise I will  wake the dawn.

ST. MARTIN’S DAY MORNING HYMN

All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .

Martin confessor, holy monk and shepherd,

We who are God’s poor, celebrate your wonders.

Sinners we ask you: share with us your mantle;

Clothe us with God’s Son.

Breaking your steel sword, chain of sinful bondage,

Taking up God’s Word, two-edged sword of service;

You were our Champion; wielding endless mercy;

Peace was your vict’ry.

Patient and humble, martyr in your living,

Witness to new life in your daily dying,

Now you give witness to our God eternal

Crowned with Love’s glory.

This our confession: Jesus Christ Incarnate

True God of true God, Word who dwelt among us,

Word of the Abba, God before all ages,

One in the Spirit.  Amen!

Text: St. Meinrad, 1972; Tune ISTE CONFESSOR, Mode 1 Adpt.

PSALMODY

Antiphon

Servant of our God,

proven faithful in little tasks, enter now the joy of your Master.

Psalm 83/84

How glorious is your dwelling place,

O Adonai Sabbaoth!

My soul longs, yes aches,

yearning for the courts of Adonai.

My body and soul ring out their joy

to the Living Heart of Love!

As the sparrow herself seeks a home

and the swallow a nest for her brood,

I am eager to rest near your altars,

Adonai Sabbaoth! My God and my Love!

To live in your presence is  joy,

to praise you and never stop.

Those you bless with strength and courage,

will bless you with grateful hearts.

When they cross the Valley of Thirst

they find the ground spaced with springs,

blessed with the rains of autumn.

They travel with growing excitement

to reach the God of  gods in Zion.

Hear me, Adonai Sabbaoth!

Heed me, O God of Jacob!

Turn your eyes, O God, our Shield,

behold the face of your anointed.

One day within your courts

is worth a thousand spent elsewhere!

I would rather stand outside your Gates

than dwell in splendor with the wicked.

God is our support and our shield,

the giver of grace and glory.

Adonai never fails to bless

those who walk with integrity.

How blest, Adonai Sabbaoth,

are all those who trust in you!

Glory to the ONE through the WORD

In the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

Servant of our God,

proven faithful in little tasks, enter now the joy of your Master.

READING

The Spirit of Adonai Elohim is upon me, because Adonai has anointed me to bring tidings to the afflicted; God has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of Adonai’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion — to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of Adonai, that God may be glorified.

Silent Prayer

Responsory

R. Blessed be God forever, Amen, Alleluia!  V.Bow down before Adonai in the splendor of holiness and dance in God’s honor, all people on earth!  V. Glory to the Abba and to the Word, and to the Holy Breath of Love.

Canticle of Zachary–  Luke 1:68-79

 Antiphon

In his speech, only Christ was ever to be found;

in his heart, only love, peace and mercy.

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

In his speech, only Christ was ever to be found;

in his heart, only love, peace and mercy.

Prayer of Jesus

Our Father …

Versicles

Show us your mercy, Adonai,

~And grant us your salvation.

Clothe your ministers with justice,

~Let your people sing for joy.

Keep this and all nations under your care,

 ~Guide all peoples in justice and truth.

Let your ways be known upon earth,

~Your saving help among all the nations.

Let not the needy be forgotten

~Nor the hope of any be denied.

Create in us clean hearts, O God;

~ And fill us with your Holy Spirit.

O God of Justice and Peace, you are glorified in the  life and teachings of Saint Martin of Tours.  Renew the wonders of your grace in our hearts, that neither death nor life
may separate us from your love.  We ask this in the name of Jesus
who lives and loves with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

May the God of love fill us with all joy and peace, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit, we may share all we have with those who are in need.   ~Amen.

Let us bless Adonai.

~Thanks be to God.
