SOLEMNITY of the SACRED HEART

SERVICE OF LIGHT

Greeting/Invocation

 We light the EVENING CANDLE and say or sing:

Jesus Christ is the Light of the World!

~The Light no darkness can extinguish!

God loved the world so much, alleluia!

~That God sent the Beloved to be with us, alleluia!

HYMN FOR SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART

O Christ, the world’s Creator bright,

Who humankind from sin redeem,

Light from the Abba’s glorious Light,

True God from God in bliss supreme.

Your love compelled you to assume

A mortal body, all to save;

Reversing the old Adam’s doom,

The ransom, the New Adam gave.

That love with grace framed all creation–

Our Earth, the stars and wondrous sea–

Took pity on our parents’ fall,

Broke all our bonds and set us free.

O Jesus, let your burning love

Flow ever from your Sacred Heart;

That grace and freedom from above

To all on Earth you might impart.

Your Heart for this was opened wide,

And wounded by the soldier’s spear,

That freely from your sacred side

Those streams would flow our souls to clear.

O Christ, to you all thanks and praise,

For from your Heart does grace outpour,

With Abba and the Breath of Love,

Through endless ages evermore.  Amen.

SERVICE    OF THE WORD

EVENING PSALMODY

Antiphon

Indeed, from his fullness we have all received.

Psalm 110/111

I will thank Adonai with all my heart

wherever the just meet or assemble.

Great are your works O my God;

a delight to explore and ponder.

Your creation is majestic and glorious

Your justice remains forever.

Who can forget your wonders!

filled with compassion and love!

You give food  to all the faithful,

ever-mindful of your sacred covenant.

You revealed your strength to this people

by giving them land among the nations.

You rule with justice and truth;

Your decrees are helpful and certain;

each law reveals you can be trusted

and can be lived with faith and assurance.

Adonai has delivered this people

and established a covenant for ever.

Your holy Name fills us with awe!

Reverence for the Holy One is the beginning of wisdom,

wise are those who know how to live it!

Praise Adonai forever!

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

Indeed, from his fullness we have all received.

READING          ephesians 2: 4-7

God is rich in mercy; because of such great love, even when we were dead in our transgressions God brought us to life with Christ. By this grace you have been saved. Both with and in Christ Jesus, God raised us up and seated us with him in the heavens, that in the ages to come, the immeasurable riches of grace in kindness to us in Christ Jesus might be revealed.

Responsory

R.  Come to me all you who labor and are over burdened and I will give you rest.  Shoulder yoke and learn from me, * for I am gentle and humble of heart and you will find rest for your souls.  V. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light. * for I am gentle and humble of heart and you will find rest for your souls.   V.  Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Holy Breath of Love.

Gospel Antiphon

Let us look to Jesus the author and finisher of faith,

who, for the love of all humankind endured the cross with all its shame.

 Refrain

Lord Jesus

Canticle from Philippians 2: 6-11

 Though he was in the form of God

Jesus did not  snatch at equality with God.

He emptied himself,

taking the form of  a servant,

being born in the likeness of human beings.

And being found in human form,

he humbled himself,

and became obedient unto death,

even death on a cross.

Therefore God has highly exalted him

and bestowed on him the name

that is above every name.

That at the name of Jesus

every knee should bow

in heaven and on earth and under the earth.

And every tongue confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God our Abba.

Acclamation

Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Abba!

Glory to the Abba and the Word

And the Holy Breath of Love

As always before

So now and evermore. Amen

Let us look to Jesus the author and finisher of faith,

who, for the joy that awaited him endured the cross with all its shame.

Those who wish may end evening prayer with the Salve Regina

Marian Antiphon

Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae, Vita dulcedo et Spes nostra, salve!

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae; Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes in hac lacrimarum vale. Eia, ergo, Advocata nostra, illos tuos misericordes oculos, ad nos converte; et Jesum benedictum fructum ventris tui, nobis, post hoc exilium ostende.  O Clemens, O Pia, O Dulcis, Virgo Maria!

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God;

~ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.  Holy, Mighty and Immortal God, through the working of the Holy Spirit, you prepared the body and soul of the glorious virgin Mother Mary, as a worthy dwelling for your Word; grant that we, who celebrate her memory each evening, may with the help of her prayers, be freed from ever-present evil, and come to share the fulness of life eternal.   Amen.
