Invitation to Worship

Come, let us sing to Adonai, let us praise the God of all Creation!

We make the Sign of the Cross over our  lips as we begin.

O Holy ONE + open my lips,

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Forgive your People;

~ All those whom you have redeemed.

MORNING HYMN

All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .
  1. ‘Forgive our sins as we forgive,’
you taught us all to pray,
but you alone can grant the grace
to live the words we say.
  1. How can your pardon reach and bless
    the unforgiving heart,
that broods on wrongs and will not let
    old bitterness depart?
  1. In blazing light your love reveals
    the truth we dimly knew:
what trivial debts are owed to us,
how great our debt to you!
  1. God, cleanse the depths within our souls,
    and bid resentment cease;
then, bound to all in bonds of love,
our lives will spread your peace.

PSALMODY

Antiphon

Dawn finds me ready to seek your help, O my God!

Psalm 118/119:145-152
Koph

I call with all my heart; Adonai, hear me,
I will keep your statutes.
I call upon you, save me
and I will do your will.

I rise before dawn and cry for help,
I hope in your word.
My eyes watch through the night
to ponder your promise.

In your love hear my voice, O God;
give me life by your decrees.
Those who harm me unjustly draw near;
they are far from your law.

But you, Adonai, are close,
your commands are truth.
Long have I known that your will
is established for ever.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love.

As always before

so now and evermore. Amen.

Dawn finds me ready to seek your help, O my God!

.

READING     Leviticus 16:29-34

This shall be an everlasting statute for you: on the tenth day of the seventh month every one of you, whether a native or a resident alien, shall humble yourselves* and shall do no work.

For on this day, atonement is made for you to make you clean; of all your sins you will be cleansed before Adonai.

It shall be a Sabbath of complete rest for you, on which you must humble yourselves—an everlasting statute.

This atonement is to be made by the priest who has been anointed and ordained to the priesthood in succession to his father. He shall wear the linen garments, the sacred vestments, and purge the most sacred part of the sanctuary, as well as the tent of meeting, and the altar. He shall also make atonement for the priests and all the people of the assembly.

This, then, shall be an everlasting statute for you: once a year atonement shall be made on behalf of the Israelites for all their sins. And Moses did as Adonai had commanded him.

Silent Prayer

Responsory

R. Christ has entered the sanctuary once and for all, *he has won for us an eternal redemption. V.  He entered not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood. * He has won for us an eternal redemption.  V.  Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Holy Breath of Love.

Canticle of Zachary–  Luke 1:68-79

 Antiphon

God first loved us, and sent the Son to be the atonement for our sins.

If God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

God first loved us, and sent the Son to be the atonement for our sins.

If God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Intercessions for Yom Kippur

May the sound of the Shofar shatter our complacency

~And make us conscious of the corruption in our lives.

May the sound of the Shofar penetrate our souls,

~ And cause us to turn back to our Abba in Heaven.

May the sound of the Shofar break the bonds of the evil impulse within us,
And enable us to serve Adonai with a whole heart.

May the sound of the Shofar renew our loyalty to the one true Holy One

~ And strengthen our determination to defy the false gods.

May the sound of the Shofar awaken us to the enormity of our sins,

~ And the vastness of God’s mercy for those who truly repent.

May the sound of the Shofar summon us to service

~ And stir us to respond, as did Abraham, “Here am I.”

May the sound of the Shofar recall the moment when we stood at Mount Sinai and uttered the promise: ~ “All that Adonai has spoken, we will keep and obey.”

May the sound of the Shofar recall the promise of the ingathering of the exiles,
~ And stir within us renewed devotion to the Land of Israel.

May the sound of the Shofar recall the vision of the prophets,

~ Of the day when Palestine and Israel will live in peace.

May the sound of the Shofar awaken us to the flight of time,

~ And summon us to spend our days with purpose.

May the sound of the Shofar become our jubilant shout of joy

~ On the day of the promised, long awaited redemption.

May the sound of the Shofar remind us that it is time “To proclaim liberty throughout the land ~ And to all the inhabitants thereof.”

May the sound of the Shofar enter our hearts;

~ For blessed is the people that hearkens to its call.

Prayer of Jesus

Our Dear Abba …

 Closing Prayer & Blessing

We give you thanks, Holy One, for with a mother’s love you have watched over us in the night and have led us from the shadows of darkness into morning’s light.  In solidarity with our Jewish Sisters and Brothers who celebrate Yom Kippur, we hold out our own brokenness and that of our world knowing that you, O Righteous One, receive, forgive and heal all things completely.  For you fill the whole world with your mercy and love now and forever.  Amen.

Blessing

Oseh Shalom, bim’romav. Hu ya’aseh shalom aleinu v’al kol Yisrael, v’imru, imru Amein!

(May the One who causes peace to fall on the heights, shed peace on us and on all of Israel. And let us say: “Amen”)

Let us bless Adonai.

~ Thanks be to God.
