Invitation to Worship
The Lord, manifest today, come let us adore him!
O Holy One,+ open my lips.
~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.
The rulers of Earth will fall prostrate, alleluia!
~and all nations will serve him, alleluia!
Epiphany Morning Hymn
Songs of thankfulness and praise, Jesus, now, to You we raise,
Manifested by the star To the sages from afar;
Branch of royal David’s stem In Your birth at Bethlehem;
Praises be to you addressed, God in flesh made manifest.
Manifest at Jordan’s stream, Prophet, Priest, and King supreme;
And at Cana, wedding guest, In your Godhead manifest;
Manifest in power divine, Changing water into wine;
Praises be to you addressed, God in flesh made manifest.
Psalmody
Antiphon
All the nations that you have made
shall come and worship before you, O Lord.
Canticle from Isaiah 60
Arise Jerusalem, rise clothed in light
your light has come and the glory of Adonai shines over you.
Though darkness covers the earth
and dark night the nations,
Adonai shall shine upon you
and over you God’s glory shall appear;
and the nations shall march toward your light
and their monarchs march to your sunrise.
Then shall you see and shine with joy,
then your heart shall thrill with pride:
the riches of the sea shall be lavished on you
and yours will be the wealth of the nations.
Camels in droves shall cover your land,
dromedaries from Midian and Ephah,
all coming from Sheba laden with golden spice and frankincense,
all heralds of the praise of Adonai!
The sun shall no longer be your light by day,
nor the moon shine on you when evening falls;
Adonai shall be your everlasting Light,
Your God shall be your glory.
Glory to the Abba and to the Word
and to the Breath of Love
as always before
so now and evermore. Amen.
All the nations that you have made
shall come and worship before you, O Lord.
READING I John 1:5-7
God is light, in God there is no darkness.
If we walk in light, as Christ is in the Light,
we have communion with one another
and the lifeblood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from sin.
Responsory
R. Many came from distant lands, Alleluia, Alleluia! V. Bringing frankincense and gold. Alleluia, Alleluia! V. Glory to the Abba, and the Word and the Breath of Love. R. Many came from distant lands, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Canticle of Zachariah
Antiphon
When you were manifest in the flesh, O Word of God,
You enlightened all people for ever.
Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,
Who visits this people to set us free
Raising for us a sign of salvation
In the house and family of David.
God promised throughout past ages
In words of holy prophets
To save us from our enemies,
And from the control of our oppressors.
Adonai favored our ancestors
And remembered the sacred covenant.
The pledge to Abraham and Sarah
Is now renewed for us;
That freed from the grip of our foes
We might worship without fear
And be both just and holy
For the rest of our days.
And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”
Will go ahead to prepare the way,
By teaching this people of salvation
Through forgiveness of their sins.
For the loving compassion of the Holy One
As the Rising Sun will shine upon us
To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow
To Guide our feet on the way of peace.
Glory to the ONE and to the WORD
And to the BREATH of Love!
As always before,
so now and evermore. Amen
When you were manifest in the flesh, O Word of God,
You enlightened all people for ever.
