Invitation to  Worship

We worship Christ the Son of God who was called the son of Joseph.

O Holy One,+ open my lips.

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

The just one blossoms like a lily-

~And grows forever in the sight of Adonai!

Morning Hymn St. Joseph

How blest was Joseph by our God: a man both just and kind;

The angel’s message trumped the law and filled his heart and mind.

His wife became a fruitful vine enriching his abode.

Her Son, Anointed Bread and Wine, Was heaven’s gift bestowed.

All glory be to God the Son, the Abba’s image bright.

Who lived and loved in Joseph’s home, Revealed the Spirit’s light.  Amen

Text: v. 1 The Daily Feast  vv. 2-3 St. Meinrad, 1969; Tune: MORNING SONG

Psalmody

Antiphon

Joseph was a just man and the angel of Adonai told him:

Joseph do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife.

The child she bears is of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 22/23

You, O LOVE, are my shepherd,

There is nothing more I need.

Fresh and green are the pastures,

Where you take me to rest;

Leading  me near calming waters

You renew my drooping spirit.

You guide me in the path of goodness,

Always true to your Loving-kindness.

If I walk in the valley of death’s darkness

No evil would I fear

You are there with your shepherd’s staff

To strengthen, guide and give comfort.

You spread a feast before me

In the presence of all that I fear,

You soothe my head with oil;

My cup is more than full.

Your goodness and love will tend me

All the days of my life.

I will dwell in the Heart of your Love

For ever and ever.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love.

As always before

so now and evermore. Amen.

Joseph was a just man and the angel of Adonai told him:

Joseph do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife.

The child she bears is of the Holy Spirit.

 READING   Genesis 39: 1-6

When Joseph was taken down to Egypt, an Egyptian, Potiphar, an official of Pharaoh and his chief steward, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him there. ADONAI was with Joseph and he enjoyed great success and was assigned to the household of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the ADONAI was with him and brought him success in whatever he did, he favored Joseph and made him his personal attendant; he put him in charge of his household and entrusted to him all his possessions.From the moment that he put him in charge of his household and all his possessions, ADONAI blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; ADONAI’s blessing was on everything he owned, both inside the house and out. Having left everything he owned in Joseph’s charge, he gave no thought, with Joseph there; to anything but the food he ate.

Canticle of Zachariah

Antiphon

Blessed be God, the Abba of our Lord Jesus Christ,

from whom all parenthood in heaven and on earth takes its name.

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To Guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

Blessed be God, the Abba of our Lord Jesus Christ,

from whom all parenthood in heaven and on earth takes its name.

Service of Prayer

Litany of Intercession

You revealed to Saint Joseph your eternal plan of salvation in Jesus;

~deepen our understanding of the mystery of the incarnation and your plan to bring fullness of life to all creation.

You feed the birds of the air and clothe the fields with the fruit of the earth;

~give all people and all creatures their daily bread and food to sustain their lives.

You entrusted creation to the freedom and cooperation of all species and gave humans a special role in recognizing and preserving the inter-dependence of all you have made,

~ may all who work receive what they need to flourish and all those who are unable to work be cared for, healed or hired.

You revealed to St. Joseph that true  justice exceeds the requirements of law and may at times contradict certain precepts; ~ give us the wisdom of discernment, the courage to challenge and change laws that are not just, and the love that guides us to justice and peace.
