WEEK XXX Tuesday

Invitation to Worship

Come, let us sing to Adonai, let us praise the God of all Creation!

We make the Sign of the Cross over our  lips as we begin.

O Holy ONE + open my lips,

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Awake my soul and sing;

~ With God’s praise I will  wake the dawn.

TUESDAY MORNING HYMN

All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .

This day God gives me
Strength of high heaven.
Sun and moon shining.
Flame in my hearth.
Flashing of lightning.
Wind in its swiftness.
Deeps of the ocean.
Firmness of earth.

This day God sends me
Strength as my steersman,
Might to uphold me.
Wisdom as guide.
Your eyes are watchful.
Your ears are listening.
Your lips are speaking.
Friend at my side.

God’s way is my way,
God’s shield is round me.
God’s host defends me.
Saving from ill.
Angels of heaven,
Drive from me always
All that would harm me.
Stand by me still.

Rising, I thank you.
Mighty and strong one.
God of creation,
Giver of rest.
Firmly confessing
Threeness of persons,
Oneness of Godhead,
Trinity blest.

PSALMODY

Antiphon

Let the Earth and all she bears rejoice;

All the trees of the woods and orchards shout for joy!

Psalm 64/65

To You our praise is due

O God in Zion

To You do we commit our lives,

for you are the One who hears our prayer.

To you do we come

when we have gone astray.

When our transgressions weigh us down

You are the One who sets us free.

Blessed are those you invite

and welcome to your dwelling.

You fill us with the bounty of your house,

and the holiness of your temple.

You keep your promise with wonders,

O Adonai, our savior,

You are the hope of all on Earth

even the most distant isles.

Clothed in power and strength

You uphold and steady the mountains;

You still the roaring of the seas

(restless waves and raging nations).

You fill them from east to west with your joy.

You tend and water the land,

and it yields a great harvest.

You fill your springs,

ready the seeds, and prepare the grain.

You soak the furrows and level the ridges;

With softening rain you bless its growth.

You crown the year with your goodness,

All you touch comes alive:

Abundance flows in your steps,

In fields and meadows it flows.

The hills are dressed with joy,

the pastures covered with flocks.

the valleys wrap themselves in grain,

They shout for joy and break into song:

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love;

as always before,

so now and evermore. Amen.

Let the Earth and all she bears rejoice;

All the trees of the woods and orchards shout for joy!

READING    1 Thess 5:2-6

You yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. When people are saying, “Peace and security,” then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief. For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober.

Silent Prayer

Responsory

R. Despise evil and love good: *for Adonai will take pity on the remnant of this people.  V.  Let justice flow like water, and integrity like an unfailing stream. *for Adonai will take pity on the remnant of this people.   V. Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Holy Breath of Love.

Canticle of Zachary–  Luke 1:68-79

 Antiphon

What can we say about the reign of God?

It is like a mustard seed which grows up

to shelter the birds of the air.  Alleluia!

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

What can we say about the reign of God?

It is like a mustard seed which grows up

to shelter the birds of the air.  Alleluia!

Intercessory Prayer

Litany of Intercession

Your Reign is like good seed planted in a field invaded by weeds; ~give us ears to hear and patience to refrain from judging others.

Your Reign is like yeast kneaded into three measures of flour ~ give us ears to hear and strength to bring your love into everything we do.

Your Reign is like a mustard seed which someone plants in a field ~ give us ears to hear and   hearts to make others welcome.

You invite us while we are still stuck in selfishness and sin to join you in building your Reign  on earth as it is in heaven; ~may the love we bring to the world today be seed and leavening for your reign.

Prayer of Jesus

Our Dear Abba in heaven …

Closing Prayer

God of all times and seasons, kindle in us a generous love and a heartfelt compassion for all those we meet this day.  As we celebrate Autumn’s wonders, beauty and bounty, empower us to follow the Gospel’s command that we love our enemies do good to those who hate us and pray for those who wish us harm.  We ask this in the name of Jesus, who lives and loves with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. ~ Amen

 Blessing

May the God of love fill us with all joy and peace, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit, we may abound in joy.   ~Amen.

Let us bless Adonai!

~Thanks be to God.
