Invitation to  Worship

Come, let us sing to  Adonai, let us praise the God of all creation!

O Holy One,+ open my lips.

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Let everything that lives and that breathes-

~give praise to Adonai, alleluia!

Sunday Morning Hymn

Sing with all who love God’s glory,
sing the resurrection song!
Death and sorrow, earth’s dark story,
to the former days belong.
All around the clouds are breaking,
soon the storms of time shall cease;
In God’s likeness, we awaking,
know  the everlasting peace.

O what glory, far exceeding
all that eye has yet perceived!
Holiest hearts for ages waiting,
never that full joy conceived.
God has promised, Christ prepares it,
On that day our welcome waits;
Every humble spirit shares it,
Christ has passed th’eternal gates.

Life eternal! heaven rejoices:
Jesus lives who once was dead;
Join we now, the deathless voices;
God’s beloved, lift up your head!
Patriarchs from the distant ages,
Saints who longing oft would pray,
Prophets, psalmists, seers, and sages,
All await the glorious day.

Life eternal! O what wonders
Crowd on faith; what joy unknown,
When, amidst earth’s closing thunders,
Saints shall stand before the throne!
O to enter that bright portal,
See that glowing firmament
Know with You,  O God immortal,
“Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
Words: William J Irons, alt.; Music: Beethoven; Melody: Hymn to Joy 87.87.D

PSALMODY

Antiphon/Refrain

With all my heart I long for you in the night, Adonai;

I seek you eagerly when morning breaks.

Psalm 62/63

O God, you are my God, for you I long

for you my soul is thirsting.

My body pines for you

like a dry weary land without water;

So I gaze on you in your holy place

to see your strength and your glory.

For your love is better than life,

my lips will speak your praise.

So I will bless you all my life,

in your name I will lift up my hands.

My soul shall be filled as with a banquet,

my mouth shall praise you with joy.

On my bed I remember you.

On you I muse through the night,

for you have been my help;

in the shadow of your wings I rejoice.

My soul clings to you;

your right hand holds me fast.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love.

As always before,

so now and evermore. Amen.

With all my heart I long for you in the night, Adonai;

I seek you eagerly when morning breaks.

 READING   Exodus 22: 24-26

“If you lend money to one of your poor neighbors among my people,
you shall not act like an extortioner toward him
by demanding interest from him.
If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge,
you shall return it before sunset;
for this cloak is the only covering for the night.
What else is there to sleep in?
If your neighbor cries out to me, I will hear; for I am full of compassion.”

Responsory

R.  Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker; *those who are kind to the needy honor God. V. God has chosen those who are poor in this world to be rich in  faith and heirs of the reign of God *those who are kind to the needy honor God.   V. Glory to the Abba and to the Word and to the Holy Breath of Love.

Canticle of Zachariah

Antiphon

The blind man sitting by the wayside cried out:

“Jesus, Son of David have pity on me!”

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

The blind man sitting by the wayside cried out:

“Jesus, Son of David have pity on me!”

 SERVICE OF PRAYER

Litany of Intercession

Lord Jesus, you are the rising Sun, the firstfruits of the future resurrection.
 – grant that we may not sit in the shadow of death but walk in the light of life.

Show us your goodness, present in every creature,
 – that we may contemplate your glory everywhere.

Do not allow us to be overcome by evil today.
– but grant that we may overcome evil through the power of good.

You were baptized in the Jordan and anointed by the Holy Spirit.
– grant that we may this day give thanks to your Holy Spirit.
