WEEK XV Thursday

July 15 – St. Bonaventure, OFM Conv. (1221-1274)

Invitation to Worship

Come, let us sing to Adonai, let us praise the God of all Creation!

We make the Sign of the Cross over our  lips as we begin.

O Holy ONE + open my lips,

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Fish and all Creatures of the sea, bless Adonai;

~ All you Birds in the heavens, exalt God for ever!

THURSDAY MORNING HYMN

All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .

God’s glory, Christ, our new-dawned day,

in deep compassion for our Earth,

has raised what we had left for dead,

and healed what sin had scarred at birth.

The Alpha and Omega, Christ,

today and yesterday: the same!

who manifests the great unseen:

who by the nameless One is named!

Word of God’s silence, sounding still

beneath the surface of each day;

both cloud by day and flame by night,

companion, goal, our guide and way.

We bless you, Abba, brimming love,

and Christ, your well-beloved Son,

who with your Spirit breathe in us:

Three-personed yet forever One. Amen

PSALMODY

Antiphon/Refrain

Come, Lord, bring  to us your peace,

let us rejoice before you with a perfect heart.

Psalm 54/55:2-3 and 41/42

O God, listen to my prayer, do not hide from pleading,

attend to me and reply with my cares I cannot rest.

Like the deer that yearns for running streams,

so my soul is yearning for you, my God.

My soul is thirsting for God, the God of my life;

when can I enter and see, the face of God.

My tears have become my bread, by night, by day,

as I hear it said all day long: “Where is your God?”

Why are you cast down my soul, why groan with- in me?

Hope in God and praise the Holy One: my savior and my God.

Deep is calling on deep in the roar of mighty waters;

your torrents and all your waves have swept over me.

By day Adonai will send com-passion and loving kindness;

by night I will sing a song of thanks; praise the God of my life.

Why are you cast down my soul, why groan with- in me?

Hope in God and praise the Holy One: my savior and my God.

Setting: Tobias Colgan, OSB, alt.

READING     Isaiah 26:7-9

The way of the just is smooth;
the path of the just you make level.
Yes, for your way and your judgments, O ADONAI, we look to you;
Your name and your glory are the desire of our souls.
My soul yearns for you in the night,
yes, my spirit within me keeps vigil for you;
When your judgment dawns upon the earth,
the world’s inhabitants learn justice.
O ADONAI, you mete out peace to us,
for it is you who have accomplished all we have done.

Canticle of Zachary–  Luke 1:68-79

 Antiphon

Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am humble of heart.

So you will find rest: my yoke is easy my burden light.

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am humble of heart.

So you will find rest: my yoke is easy my burden light.
