Invitation to Worship

Come, let us sing to Adonai, let us praise the God of all Creation!

We make the Sign of the Cross over our  lips as we begin.

O Holy ONE + open my lips,

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Fish and all Creatures of the sea, bless Adonai;

~ All you Birds in the heavens, exalt God for ever!

THURSDAY MORNING HYMN

All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .

When morning fills the sky, Our hearts awaking cry:

May Jesus Christ be praised.
In all our works and prayer His sacrifice we share:
May Jesus Christ be praised.

The night becomes as day, When from our hearts we say:
May Jesus Christ be praised.
The powers of darkness fear When this glad song they hear:
May Jesus Christ be praised.

In heav’n our joy will be To sing eternally:
May Jesus Christ be praised.
Let earth and sea and sky From depth to height reply:
May Jesus Christ be praised.

Let all the earth now sing To our eternal King:
May Jesus Christ be praised.
By this the eternal song. Through ages all along:
May Jesus Christ be praised.
Words: E. Caswall, 1878; Melody: O Seigneur 667.667.D, Louis Bourgeois, 1561

PSALMODY

Refrain

Within your temple we recall your loving kindness.

Psalm 47/48

Adonai is great and worthy to be praised

in the city of our God.

God’s holy mountain rises in beauty,

the joy of all the Earth. Refrain

Mount Sion, true pole of the Earth

the Great One’s city!

God in the midst of its citadels

has proven to be its stronghold. Refrain

Walk through Sion, walk all round it;

count the number of its towers.

Review all its ramparts,

examine all its fortifications. Refrain

That you may tell the next generation

that such is our God,

our God forever and always.

It is Adonai who leads us.  Refrain

READING     Isaiah 66: 1-2

Thus says Adonai:
The heavens are my throne, and the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house can you build for me; what is to be my resting place?
My hand made all these things when all of them came to be, says Adonai.
These are the ones I approve; the lowly and afflicted who revere my word.

Silent Prayer

Responsory

R. Holiness is fitting to your house, Adonai, till the end of time, * Alleluia, Alleluia!  V. Your throne has stood firm from of old, from all eternity, Adonai, you are. * Alleluia, Alleluia!    V.  Glory to the Abba and the Word, and the Breath of Love.

Canticle of Zachary–  Luke 1:68-79

 Antiphon

“To prove that the Human One has power to forgive sins
I tell this man:  pick up your bed and walk.”

And the man got up and walked out in front of everyone.

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

“To prove that the Human One has power to forgive sins
I tell this man:  pick up your bed and walk.”

And the man got up and walked out in front of everyone.
