SERVICE OF LIGHT

Greeting/Invocation

 We light the EASTER CANDLE and say or sing:

Christ our Light!

~Thanks be to God!

Christ is risen, alleluia!

~He is risen indeed, alleluia!

HYMN FOR EASTER EVENINGS

In joy we sing to Jesus Christ And yearn for his great feast of love;

With robes of radiant Easter joy We’ve crossed the crimson sea of sin.

As Jesus is our pledge of life; The Lamb who died upon a cross;

His flesh was offered on that tree To be our bread of purity.

From death our Love has passed to life; Who comes as victor over sin

Who overcame all earth’s despair, And brought back hope of endless life.

All glory, praise, to Christ our Love, Who has arisen from the dead,

To Abba and our Paraclete, Who guide us all for evermore.  Amen!

SERVICE OF THE WORD

Evening Psalmody

Antiphon

Not to us O God, but to you all honor and glory, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 113b/115

Not to us, Adonai, not to us,

but to your Name give the glory;

because of your love and your truth,

lest the nations say, “Where is their God?”

But our God is in the heavens

and answers to no one.

Their gods are crafted by hand

nothing more than silver or gold.

They have mouths that are mute

and eyes that are blind;

they have ears that are deaf

and noses that cannot smell.

With their hands they cannot feel;

their feet cannot walk.

No sound comes from their throats,

their makers will come to be  like them

and so will all who worship and trust in them.

Let all of Israel trust in Adonai

who is their help and their shield.

Let the house of Aaron trust in Adonai

who is their help and their shield.

All who reverence God, trust in Adonai,

who is your help and your shield.

God remembers us and will bless us;

will bless the house of Israel

and bless the house of Aaron.

Adonai will bless those who worship

the little no less than the great

May God bless  and grant you increase,

for you and for all your children.

May you be truly blest by Adonai,

the maker of heaven and earth.

The heavens belong to Adonai

but the Earth is entrusted to our care.

The dead do not sing God’s praises

nor those who go down into silence;

but we who live bless Adonai

now and forever, Amen. Alleluia!

Not to us O God, but to you all honor and glory, Alleluia, Alleluia!

READING          acts 10: 40-43

God raised Jesus on the third day and granted that he be seen, not by all, but only by such witnesses as had been chosen beforehand by God–by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.  He commissioned us to preach to the people and to bear witness that he is the one set apart by God as judge of the living and the dead.  To him all the prophets testify, saying that everyone who believes in him has forgiveness of sins through his name.

 Responsory

R.  As the Abba has sent me, even so I send you,* alleluia, alleluia!  V. You did not choose me, but I chose you that you should go and bear fruit *alleluia, alleluia!  V.  Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Holy Breath of Love.

Gospel Canticle

Antiphon

The Holy Spirit, the Paraclete,

whom the Abba will send in my name.

will teach you all things. Alleluia!

Canticle of Mary

My heart + is radiant with the Lord,

My whole being delights in God my Savior.

All people now will call me blessed

For God has loved this humble handmaid.

The Almighty has shown me great favor

Holy is the NAME,

Whose mercy embraces the faithful,

From one generation to the next.

The mighty arm of God,

Scatters the proud in their own conceit,

Pulls tyrants from their thrones

While lifting up the lowly:

Fills the famished with bounty,

And reveals the emptiness of riches.

Rescues lowly Israel,

Sharing such loving kindness,

As promised to our ancestors

To Abraham and Sarah, and their descendants forever.

Glory to the One and to the Word

And to the Breath of Love

As always before

So now and evermore. Amen

The Holy Spirit, the Paraclete,

whom the Abba will send in my name.

will teach you all things. Alleluia!

SERVICE OF PRAYER

Litany of Intercession

O Jesus the Light of the World, shine on all those who are sitting in the darkness of isolation and the shadows of despair.

O Jesus the Bread of Life, feed us that we may become bread for the world.

O Jesus the Good Shepherd, guide us to pastures of abundant life.

O Jesus the Vine, graft us to yourself that we may bear much fruit.

O Jesus the Way, show us the path and how to walk with you to freedom, flourishing and the fullness of life.

O Jesus the Truth, teach us to seek and embrace the reality of God’s love revealed in the whole of creation and in the mystery of your life, death and resurrection.

O Jesus the Life, fill us with your life-giving Spirit that we may live as you live as one with your Abba.

O Jesus the Resurrection, give life to all who have died and consolation to those who grieve their passing.

Prayer of Jesus

Our Father…

Closing Prayer

We bless and thank you, O Gracious God, for you have revealed to the nations your saving power and filled all ages with the words and melody of a new song in the resurrection of Jesus our Love.  May our celebration of this Easter Season be an echo of this great hymn. Give each of us a voice to sing your praise throughout the day in the way we live our lives and love our neighbors, for yours is the power and glory of love both now and forever.   Amen

Blessing

May the Risen Christ, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life + bless and guide us in the ways of peace.  ~Amen.

Let us bless Adonai, Alleluia, Alleluia!   ~Thanks be to God, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Those who wish may end evening prayer with the Marian Antiphon for the Easter Season.

O Queen of heaven, Be joyful, alleluia!

For He whom you rejoiced to bear for us, alleluia!

Has arisen, as he promised, alleluia!

Pray now for us to our God, alleluia!

Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Alleluia!

For our Love is truly risen, Alleluia!

Let us pray.

Holy, Immortal and Mighty God, you have brought joy to the world by raising Jesus from the dead. By the prayers of Mary his Mother, and of all the myrrh-bearing women,

raise us up with Jesus and bring us to the fullness of life.  We ask this through the same Jesus Christ, our Risen Love.  Amen.
