WEEK VII Tuesday

SERVICE OF LIGHT

Greeting/Invocation

 We light the Evening Candle and say or sing:

Light and Peace in Jesus Christ!

~Thanks be to God!

Stay with us Lord for it is evening,

~And the day is almost over.

EVENING HYMN

The setting sun now dies away,
and darkness comes at close of day;
your brightest beams, dear Christ, impart,
and let them shine within our heart.

We praise your name with joy this night.
Please watch and guide us till the light;
Joining the music of the blest,
Oh God, we sing ourselves to rest.

To God our Abba, God the Son,
And Holy Spirit, Three in One,
Trinity blest, whom we adore,
Be praise and glory evermore.

 SERVICE OF THE WORD

PSALMODY

 Antiphon

Adonai surrounds all people with peace!

Psalm 124/125

Those who put their trust in Adonai
are like Mount Zion,

that cannot be shaken,
that stands for ever.

Jerusalem! The mountains surround her,
so Adonai surrounds this people
both now and for ever.

For the scepter of the wicked shall not rest
over the land of the just
for fear that the hands of the just
should turn to evil.

Do good, O God, to those who are good,
to the upright of heart;
as for the crooked and those who do evil,
drive them away!

On Israel, peace!

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love;

as always before,

so now and evermore. Amen.

Adonai surrounds all people with peace!

Reading   Romans 12:9-18

Let love be sincere; hate what is evil, hold on to what is good;

love one another with mutual affection; anticipate one another in showing honor.

Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.

Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.

Contribute to the needs of the holy ones,exercise hospitality.

Bless those who persecute [you], bless and do not curse them.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Have the same regard for one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly; do not be wise in your own estimation.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil; be concerned for what is noble in the sight of all.

If possible, on your part, live at peace with everyone.

Responsory

R. Bear one another’s burdens *and so fulfill the law of Christ.   V. Look to each other’s interests * and so fulfill the law of Christ.  V. Glory to the ABBA, and the WORD, and the Holy BREATH of Life.

Gospel Canticle of Mary

Antiphon

“Anyone who receives these little ones in my name, receives me;
and whoever receives me, receives the One who sent me.”

It is customary to make the sign of the cross at the beginning of the Gospel Canticle.

My heart + is radiant with the Lord,

My whole being delights in God my Savior.

All people now will call me blessed

For God has loved this humble handmaid.

The Almighty has shown me great favor

Holy is the NAME,

Whose mercy embraces the faithful,

From one generation to the next.

The mighty arm of God,

Scatters the proud in their own conceit,

Pulls tyrants from their thrones

While lifting up the lowly:

Fills the famished with bounty,

And reveals the emptiness of riches.

Rescues lowly Israel,

Sharing such loving kindness,

As promised to our ancestors

To Abraham and Sarah, and their descendants forever.

Glory to the ONE and to  WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

“Anyone who receives these little ones in my name, receives me;
and whoever receives me, receives the One who sent me.”

SERVICE OF PRAYER

Litany of Intercession

We thank you, O Holy One,
– for in Christ you have given us all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Bestow your wisdom upon those charged with leadership in government, education, business and religion
– may they draw from the fountain of your counsel and please you in thought and deed.

The talents of artists reflect your splendor,
 – may their work give the world hope and joy.

You do not allow us to be tested beyond our ability,
 – strengthen the weak and raise up the fallen.

Grant eternal rest to all who have died

– and consolation to those who mourn their passing.

Prayer of Jesus

Our Father …

Closing Prayer & Blessing

Creator God, we stand in wonder and awe before Mother Earth, whom you invited to join you in the on-going work of Creation; and now each peak, valley, field and pond pours forth its poetry of gratitude and praise.  May we join the trees in clapping our hands and join all your saints in singing your praise, for yours is the love, the power and the glory now and forever.  Amen.

May the God of all creation +   bless us with a hunger and thirst for beauty and justice.   Amen.

Let us bless Adonai!    ~Thanks be to God.

 Those who wish may end evening prayer with the Marian Antiphon.
[Ave Regina Caelorum is sung from the 3rd of February until Good Friday, inclusive.]

Queen of the heavens we greet you, Queen of Angels we entreat you,

Fairest flower, heaven’s portal From whom came the Light immortal.

Matchless maiden, God did raise you For the Universe to praise you.

Hear us, O hear us, dear Mother; Show your children Jesus, our brother.

Pray for us, holy Mother of God.

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.  O Gracious God, grant to your people lasting health of mind and of body.

Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, may we be freed from present sorrow and attain eternal happiness.  We ask this through Christ our Love.  Amen.
