Invitation to Worship

O Holy ONE + open our lips,

~And we shall declare  your praise.

 MORNING HYMN

All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .

To God with gladness sing Your Rock and Savior bless,

Within this temple bring your songs of thankfulness.

O God of might, to you we sing enthroned as Love on heaven’s height.

You cradle in your hand the heights and depths of earth,

You made the sea and land you brought the world to birth

O God Most High, we are your sheep, on us you keep you shepherd’s eye.

Our heavenly Abba praise, Acclaim God’s loving Son,

Sing to the Holy Breath of Love who makes all one.

O Dove of peace on us descend that strife may end and joy increase.

Text: Psalm 94/95 paraphrase J. Quinn, SJ. Tune: J.M. Joncas

PSALMODY

Antiphon/Refrain

In the morning I will sing glad songs of praise to you.

Psalm 62/63

O God, you are my God, and I long for you from early morning,

My whole being desires you; like a dry, worn-out and waterless land,

my soul is thirsting for you.

Let me see you in the sanctuary; let me see how might and glorious you are.

Your constant love is better than life itself, and so I will praise you.

I will give you thanks as long as I live; I will raise my hands to you in prayer.

My soul will feast and be satisfied; and I will sing glad songs of praise to you.

As I lie in bed I remember you; all night long I think of you for you have always been my help.  In the shadow of your wings I sing for joy; I cling to you and your hand keeps me safe.

Glory to the Abba and to the Word and to the Breath of Love

As it was in the beginning is now, and will be forever Amen.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love;

as always before,

so now and evermore. Amen.

Psalm 150

Blest be Adonai our God! With joy let heaven ring;

Before God’s presence let all the earth its songs of homage bring!

God’s mighty deeds be told; God’s majesty be praised;

to God enthroned in heav’nly light let ev’ry voice be raised, let ev’ry voice be raised.

All that has life and breath, give thanks with heartfelt songs

To God let all creation sing to whom all praise belongs!

Acclaim the Abba’s love, who gave us Christ the Son;

Praise too the Spirit given by both, with both forever one, with both forever one.

Tr. J. Quinn S.J. Setting: J. Michael Joncas.

READING    Deuteronomy 6:5-9

Hear O Israel: Adonai Elohim is God; Adonai is One.  You shall love Adonai Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.  And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Silent Prayer

Canticle of Zachary–  Luke 1:68-79

Blest be the God of Israel who comes to set us free

and raises up new hope for us: a Branch for David’s tree.

So have the prophets long declared that with a mighty arm

God  would turn back our enemies and all who wish us harm.

With promised mercy will God still the covenant recall,

the oath once sworn to Abraham from foes to save us all;

that we might worship without fear and offer lives of praise,

in holiness and righteousness to serve God all our days.

My child, as prophet of the Lord you will prepare the way,

to tell God’s people they are saved from sin’s eternal sway.

Then shall God’s mercy from on high shine forth and never cease

to drive away the gloom of death and lead us into peace.

Paraphrase: Carl P. Daw, Jr.  Tune: FOREST GREEN

Our Father …

In you, Adonai, is the Source of Life,

~In your Light we shall see light.

Send forth your light and your truth

~Let these be our guide.

Fill us each morning with your constant love,

 ~That we may sing and be glad all our life.

Let us see your wonderful works,

~May your children see your glorious might.

Gracious God, may your blessing be upon us;

~And grant us success in all we do.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created;

~ And you shall renew the face of the earth.

Closing Prayer & Blessing

All powerful and ever living God, shine with the light of your radiance on a people who live in the shadow of death.  Le the dawn from on high break upon us: your Son, our Love, Jesus Christ, who lives and loves with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.  Amen.

May the God of light and love bless our days and our deeds with peace..   ~Amen.

Let us bless Adonai.    ~And give thanks to God.
