~Thanks be to God!

Sunday Evening Hymn

O radiant Light, O Sun divine, Of God the Abba’s deathless face,

O image of the Light sublime that fills the heavenly dwelling place.

O Word of God, the Source of Life, Praise is your due by night and day.

Our happy lips must raise the strain of your esteemed and splendid Name.

O Jesus Christ as daylight fades, as shine the lights of eventide,

We praise the Abba with the Word, the Spirit blest and with them one.

Text: Phos Hilaron, transl. WG Storey; Tune: J. Michael Joncas, Praise God in Song

Thanksgiving for the Light & Praise for Creation

Let us give thanks to the God of Light, always and for everything.

~Praise be to You, O God of all Creation!

We praise you, O Holy One, with all your creatures. They came forth from your all-powerful hand; they are yours, filled with your presence and your tender love.

~Praise be to You, O God of all Creation!

We praise you, O Word of God through whom all things were made.  Formed in the womb of Mary, you became part of Earth, and gazed upon creation with human eyes.

Today, in your risen glory, you are alive in every creature.

~Praise be to You, O God of all Creation!

We praise you O Holy Breath of Life.

By your light you guide this world towards God’s love

and accompany the groaning of creation.

You dwell in our hearts and inspire us to do what is good.

~Praise be to You, O God of all Creation!

O Three-in-One, O wondrous Community of infinite love,

teach us to contemplate you in the beauty of the universe where all things speak of you.

– Awaken our praise and gratitude for every being that you have made.

– Give us the grace to feel our intimate oneness with everything that exists.

– Show us our role as instruments of your care for all the creatures of this earth, for not one of them is forgotten in your sight.

~Praise be to You, O God of all Creation!

With the poor and Mother Earth we cry out: “Seize us, O God, with your power and light, to protect all life, to prepare for a better future, for the coming the beauty and love, the justice and peace of your Reign.  For you are full of loving kindness for your whole creation and with your creatures we glorify you: Abba, Word and Holy Breath of Love, now and forever. R ~Amen!

(New translation of Pope Francis’ Prayer from the end of  Laudato Si, no. 248)

 SERVICE OF THE WORD

Sunday Evening Psalm

Antiphon

How blessed indeed are those who revere Adonai,

greatly loving God’s commands.

Psalm 111/112

Happy are those who love God

and delight in the whole of Torah!

Their children shall be blest,

strong and upright in the land.

The households of the just will flourish

their integrity stands firm forever.

A light shines from them for others

for they are generous, merciful and just.

The good lend freely to others

and conduct their affairs with honor.

They never waver from doing what is right

their justice is remembered forever.

They do not fear evil news

with strong hearts they trust in God.

Steadfast and without fear

they will watch the wicked crumble.

Open-handed they share with the poor;

their integrity stands firm forever.

this strength will bring them honor.

But hatred devours the wicked

who grind their teeth and depart;

their hopes all turn to ashes.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love,

as always before,

so now and evermore, Amen.

How blessed indeed are those who revere Adonai,

greatly loving God’s commands.

.

Reading           I Corinthians 13:12-13

At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror,
but then face to face.
At present I know partially;
then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.
So faith, hope, love remain, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.

 Responsory

R.  This one command I give you that you love each other just as I have been loving you..  V. By this will all people know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.   V. Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Breath of Love.

New Testament Canticle

Antiphon:

The Synagogue rose up in rage agains Jesus.

they took hi to the brow of the hill to throw him down

but he slipped through the crowd and walked away.

Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, alleluia!

God’s judgments are true and just.

R.  Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Praise our God all you servants, alleluia!

Those reverencing with awe, small and great.

R.  Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Adonai our God, the Almighty reigns, alleluia!

Let us rejoice and exult, giving God the glory.

R.  Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

The marriage of the Lamb has come

And his bride has made herself ready.

She has been given for her clothing,

fine linen, glistening and pure.

R.  Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Glory to the Abba and the Word, and the Holy Breath

As always before, so now and evermore. Amen!

The Synagogue rose up in rage agains Jesus.

they took hi to the brow of the hill to throw him down

but he slipped through the crowd and walked away.
