St. Matthias

May 14 – St. Matthias, Apostle & Martyr

Invitation to  Worship

Alleluia! Our Risen Love, who sent the Apostles,

Come, let us adore him:  Alleluia, Alleluia!

O Holy One,+ open my lips.

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

O Adonai, you search me and you know me-Alleluia

~You know my resting and my rising, Alleluia!

Morning Hymn for  Eastertide

The sad Apostles mourn him  slain, nor hope to see  their Lord again

Their Lord, whom faithless men defiled, arraigned, accused and doomed to die.

With gentle voice the Angel gave the women tidings at the grave;

“Forthwith your Master you shall see; He goes ahead to Galilee!”

And while with fear and joy they pressed to bring  these tidings to the rest,

Our Love, their Risen Lord, they meet and see him live and kiss his feet.

So when the sad apostles heard the tidings of the faithful word,

They hurried forth to Galilee, Their loved and lost once more to see.

All praise be yours, O Risen Lord, from death to endless life restored;

All praise to God now be professed, all praise, O Spirit, ever blessed. Amen.

PSALMODY

Antiphon

The Apostles continued to testify

to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power; Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 18/19a

The heavens proclaim the glory of God,

and the firmament shows forth the work of God’s hands.

Day unto day takes up the story

and night unto night makes the message known.

No speech, no word, no voice is heard

yet their span extends through all the Earth,

their words to the utmost bounds of the world.

There God has placed a dwelling for the sun;

it comes forth like a bridegroom coming from his tent,

rejoices like a champion to run its course.

At the end of the sky is the rising of the sun;

to the furthest ends of the sky is its course.

There is nothing concealed from its burning heat.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love;

as always before,

so now and evermore. Amen.

The Apostles continued to testify

to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power. Alleluia, Alleluia!

READING   Acts 1:15-26

Peter stood up… and said, “My brothers and sisters,
the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand
through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus. Judas was numbered among us and was allotted a share in this ministry.
Therefore, it is necessary that one of those who accompanied us the whole time
the Lord Jesus came and went among us, …become with us a witness to his resurrection.”” So they proposed two, Joseph Barsabbas… and Matthias.  Then they prayed, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this apostolic ministry from which Judas turned away to go to his own place.” Then they gave lots to them, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was counted with the Eleven Apostles.

Responsory
R.  As the Abba has sent me, even so I send you, *Alleluia, Alleluia!  V. You did not choose me, but I chose you that you should go and bear fruit:   V.  Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Holy Breath of Love.

Gospel Canticle     John 15:9-17

Antiphon/Refrain

“I call you my friends, no longer are you slaves:

for I’ve made known to you all that the Abba told me.”

As the Abba has loved me,

so too have I loved you.

Live on in my love,

and love one another.

No greater love exists,

than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

And you are my friends

if you love as I have commanded.

I have chosen you

to go forth and bear much fruit;

your fruit must endure

so my Abba will hear your prayer:

Ask and you will receive;

seek and you shall find;

knock and the door will be opened;

Do all things in my name.

“I call you my friends, no longer are you slaves:

for I’ve made known to you all that the Abba told me.”
