Invitation to  Worship

Come, let us sing to  Adonai, let us praise the God of all creation!

O Holy One,+ open my lips.

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Let everything that lives and that breathes-

~give praise to Adonai, alleluia!

Sunday Morning Hymn

The first of all the days of time

The day that darkness lost its dread,

becomes the everlasting day

The first-born rose of all the dead.

So we arise again, alert,

Renewed by salutary sleep

To gird ourselves for life ahead,

Your loving covenant to keep.

Your Holy Spirit gives the words

To psalms and canticles we pray;

Give us this day our daily need

To join our hearts to what we say.

Grant, loving Abba, what we ask,

Addressed to you through Christ your Son,

Who with the Spirit Paraclete,

Have joined us all, to make us one. Amen.

Text:  St. Meinrad (1967); Melody: Ambrosian Chant Mode 1

PSALMODY

Antiphon/Refrain

My house shall be called a house of prayer, says our God.

In it everyone who asks receives, and those who seek find,

and to all who knock it shall be opened!

Psalm 83/84

How glorious is your dwelling place,

O Adonai Sabbaoth!

My soul longs, yes aches,

yearning for the courts of Adonai.

My body and soul ring out their joy

to the Living Heart of Love!

As the sparrow herself seeks a home

and the swallow a nest for her brood,

I am eager to rest near your altars,

Adonai Sabbaoth! My God and my Love!

To live in your presence is  joy,

to praise you and never stop.

Those you bless with strength and courage,

will bless you with grateful hearts.

When they cross the Valley of Thirst

they find the ground spaced with springs,

blessed with the rains of autumn.

They travel with growing excitement

to reach the God of  gods in Zion.

Hear me, Adonai Sabbaoth!

Heed me, O God of Jacob!

Turn your eyes, O God, our Shield,

behold the face of your anointed.

One day within your courts

is worth a thousand spent elsewhere!

I would rather stand outside your Gates

than dwell in splendor with the wicked.

God is our support and our shield,

the giver of grace and glory.

Adonai never fails to bless

those who walk with integrity.

How blest, Adonai Sabbaoth,

are all those who trust in you!

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

My house shall be called a house of prayer, says our God.

In it everyone who asks receives, and those who seek find,

and to all who knock it shall be opened!

READING   I Kings 1:13-16

Elijah said to to the widow, “Do not be afraid.
Go and do as you propose.
But first make me a little cake and bring it to me.
Then you can prepare something for yourself and your son.
For Adonai, the God of Israel, says,
‘The jar of flour shall not go empty,
nor the jug of oil run dry,
until the day when Adonai sends rain upon the earth.'”
She left and did as Elijah had said.
She was able to eat for a year, and he and her son as well;
the jar of flour did not go empty,
nor the jug of oil run dry,
as Adonai had foretold through Elijah.

Responsory

R.  Give peace, Adonai, to this who wait for you.  * Make your prophets faithful witnesses to your people.   V. Canticle of Zachariah

Antiphon

The poor widow, out of her poverty gave all she had.

Blessed be God who can make the humble and poor

grow rich in the Spirit, Alleluia!

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

The poor widow, out of her poverty gave all she had.

Blessed be God who can make the humble and poor

grow rich in the Spirit, Alleluia!

Litany of Intercession

For those who suffer most, those rejected, abandoned, and forsaken,

For those who are hungry, thirsty, or strangers in our land,

For those who are naked, sick, or in prison,

For those who are oppressed by racism, sexism, and classism,

Send forth your Spirit, O God;

~ And renew the face of the Earth.

Prayer of Jesus

Our Father…

Closing Prayer & Blessing

God of Life and Love, you sent Jesus to announce the Reign of Heaven in parables and in  his way of living and loving among us.  Each day you invite us to give away whatever we do not need and to join the poor and the rest of Earthkind in trusting in your providence and care. For yours is the power and the glory of love, now and forever. ~Amen.

May the God who invites all to the feast, bless us and all Earthkind with freedom and the fulness of life.  ~Amen

Let us bless Adonai.     ~Thanks be to God.
