SERVICE OF LIGHT
Greeting/Invocation
We light the Evening Candle and say or sing:
Light and Peace in Jesus Christ our Lord!
~Thanks be to God!
Stay with us Lord for it is evening,
~And the day is almost over.
Hymn for Sunday Evening
O Christ, you are the light and day
Which drives away the night,
The ever shining Sun of God
And pledge of future light.
As now the ev’ning shadows fall
Please grant us, Christ, we pray,
A quiet night to rest in you
Until the break of day.
Remember us, poor mortal ones,
We humbly ask, O Lord,
And may your presence in our souls,
Be now our great reward.

Thanksgiving for the Light
Let us give thanks to the God of Light, always and for everything.
~In the name of our Love, Jesus Christ.
We praise you, O Adonai our God, Ruler of the Universe!
Your word brings on the dusk of evening, your wisdom creates both night and day.
you determine the cycles of time, arrange the succession of seasons,
and establish the stars in their heavenly courses.
Adonai of the starry hosts is your name.
Living and eternal God, rule over us always.
Blessed be Adonai, whose word makes evening fall. Amen.
Text: Based on the Jewish Berakah of the Evening
SERVICE OF THE WORD
SUNDAY EVENING PSALM
Antiphon
Great are the works of Adonai,
to be pondered by all who love them.
Psalm 110/111
I will thank Adonai with all my heart
wherever the just meet or assemble.
Great are your works O my God;
a delight to explore and ponder.
Your creation is majestic and glorious
Your justice remains forever.
Who can forget your wonders!
filled with compassion and love!
You give food to all the faithful,
ever-mindful of your sacred covenant.
You revealed your strength to this people
by giving them land among the nations.
You rule with justice and truth;
Your decrees are helpful and certain;
each law reveals you can be trusted
and can be lived with faith and assurance.
Adonai has delivered this people
and established a covenant for ever.
Your holy Name fills us with awe!
Reverence toward God is the beginning of wisdom,
wise are those who know how to live it!
Praise Adonai forever!
Glory to the ONE and to the WORD
And to the BREATH of Love!
As always before,
so now and evermore. Amen
Great are the works of Adonai,

SERVICE OF PRAYER
Litany of Intercession
O Holy Compassion, you noted the longing in the heart of Zacchaeus and invited him to share his time, his home, and his food with you that evening. ~open our hearts and our homes to welcome you in the longings of all who seek truth and peace.
O Scandalous Guest, you entered the home of a tax collector who was considered a traitor and a sinner, ~may we never avoid the company of those who are scorned or marginalized.
O Blessed Generosity, your love freed Zacchaeus from his slavery to wealth and possessions, free us from our greed and our addictions to share the wondrous gifts you give each day.
O Finder of the Lost, you proclaimed that salvation had come to his house when Zacchaeus embraced both generosity and justice, ~give us the strength to follow his example and work together for the flourishing of all Earthkind.
Prayer of Jesus
Our Dear Abba in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kin-dom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the test but deliver us from evil;
For the kin-dom the power and the glory are yours
now and forever.
Closing Prayer & Blessing
Creator and Sustainer of this wondrous Universe, You fill the Earth with bounty to satisfy the needs of all creatures, and invite them to participate in your creative process. Open our eyes and hearts to see the intrinsic good in all things lest we reject the very stone needed to connect the structures of your reign on earth as it is in heaven; for yours is the power and the glory, now and forever. ~Amen.
May the peace of God that surpasses all understanding
guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amen.
Let us bless Adonai ~Thanks be to God.
Those who wish may end evening prayer with the Marian Antiphon.
Marian Antiphon
Mother of mercy, our Queen, we greet you! Our life, our hope, our happiness, we hail you.
We call to you as Eve’s own children, and exiles; To you we lift our heart in sorrow and fear, in this valley of tears. Turn then, our loving Advocate, and look with favor upon us. And after our life in exile, show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O gracious, O loving, O Virgin benign, our Mother Mary.
