January 26th is the Feast of Ss. Timothy and Titus
Invitation to Worship
Come, let us sing to Adonai, let us praise the God of all Creation!
We make the Sign of the Cross over our lips as we begin.
O Holy ONE + open my lips,
~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.
Let all creation praise the greatness of God!
Let the universe extol the glory of Adonai!
MORNING HYMN
All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .
Great teachers of our ancient faith, With all the heav’ns we sing your fame;
Whose sound went forth in all the earth To tell of Christ and bless the Name.
You took the Good News to the poor, The Word of God alight in you,
Which in our day is told again: that timeless word forever new.
You told of One who died for us And out of death triumphant rose,
Who shared the truth that makes us free, And changeless through the ages goes.
Like sparks among the straw, you ran To set the universe ablaze
To kindle love of Jesus Christ And take his peace on all your ways.
Praise Abba, Word and Spirit blest Whose gift is faith that never dies:
A light in darkness now until The daystar in our hearts arise. Amen.
Text Stanbrook Abbey (1971) alt. Tune: Plainsong, Mode VIII
PSALMODY
Antiphon
Adonai has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor
and to proclaim liberty to the captives.
Psalm 95/96
Sing a new song to Adonai!
Sing it and bless God’s Name!
Sing it everyone, and everywhere!
Proclaim God’s help every day,
Tell every nation about the triumph!
God’s glory and wonders among the peoples.
A God so great deserves all praise,
and the dread of all other gods,
far too many value their worthless gods
but it was Adonai who made the heavens;
to God belong majesty and power
and splendorous beauty in the temple.
Proclaim Adonai, O families of nations,
Praise the glory of God’s power
Praise the glory of the Holy Name.
Bring gifts to offer in the temple,
worship with reverence and awe,
O Earth, join us in praise.
Tell it among the nations:
“Adonai reigns with justice!
As the firmness of Earth is not swayed,
nothing can sway the justice of God.
Let heaven and Earth be glad,
the sea and its creatures roar their praise;
the fields and their animals exult,
the trees and their birds sing for joy,
at the presence of Adonai who comes–
who comes to reign on Earth.
With justice God will set Earth aright;
with truth restore the world to order!
Glory to the ONE and to the WORD
and to the BREATH of Love.
As always before
so now and evermore. Amen.
Adonai has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor
and to proclaim liberty to the captives.
READING I Timothy 1:1-8
Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God
for the promise of life in Christ Jesus,
to Timothy, my dear child:
grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father
and Christ Jesus our Lord.
… I remind you to stir into flame
the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands.
For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice
but rather of power and love and self-control.
So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord,
nor of me, a prisoner for his sake;
but bear your share of hardship for the Gospel
with the strength that comes from God.
Silent Prayer
Responsory
R. Wherever we go we carry death in our body, the death that Jesus died, *that in this body also, life may reveal itself, the life that Jesus lives. V. The One who raised the Lord Jesus to life will raise us also with him and bring us into His presence. *that in this body also, life may reveal itself, the life that Jesus lives. V. Glory to the Abba and the Word, and the Breath of Love.
Canticle of Zachary– Luke 1:68-79
Antiphon
Go out to the whole world, proclaim the Good News.
Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,
Who visits this people to set us free
Raising for us a sign of salvation
In the house and family of David.
God promised throughout past ages
In words of holy prophets
To save us from our enemies,
And from the control of our oppressors.
Adonai favored our ancestors
And remembered the sacred covenant.
The pledge to Abraham and Sarah
Is now renewed for us;
That freed from the grip of our foes
We might worship without fear
And be both just and holy
For the rest of our days.
And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”
Will go ahead to prepare the way,
By teaching this people of salvation
Through forgiveness of their sins.
For the loving compassion of the Holy One
As the Rising Sun will shine upon us
To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow
To guide our feet on the way of peace.
Glory to the ONE and to the WORD
and to the BREATH of Love!
As always before,
so now and evermore. Amen.
Go out to the whole world, proclaim the Good News.
Intercessory Prayer
You revealed yourself to St. Paul as the one he was persecuting,
may we see you present in everyone, especially our opponents and enemies.
You called Timothy and Titus to accompany Paul and continue his ministry of proclaiming the Gospel to the Gentiles,
make us worthy ministers of your Good News wherever you lead us.
You favored Timothy with a deep love for the ancient scriptures and a willingness to serve the Gospel in a variety of ministries;
illumine our reading of Scripture and strengthen our efforts to live the wisdom and values of the Gospel each day of our lives.
You blessed Titus with the skills of a peacemaker and used him to guide those in conflict to reconciliation;
bless those who are working to reconcile nations, religions, peoples and families.
Create new hearts in us, O God,
and fill us with your Holy Spirit.
Prayer of Jesus
Our Father …
Closing Prayer & Blessing
Holy One and God of endless Compassion, you are the praise of all your saints and the joy of all creation. As you called Timothy and Titus to proclaim the Gospel and to guide the early Christian communities, direct all our actions by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit and further them on with your continual help so that every prayer and work of ours may always begin from you, be carried out in harmony with all of creation, and through you be brought to completion. For yours is the power and glory of love now and forever. Amen.
May the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. ~Amen.
Let us bless Adonai.
~Thanks be to God.
