Invitation to Worship

Come, let us sing to Adonai, let us praise the God of all Creation!

We make the Sign of the Cross over our  lips as we begin.

O Holy ONE + open my lips,

~And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

Fish and all Creatures of the sea, bless Adonai;

~ All you Birds in the heavens, exalt God for ever!

MORNING HYMN

All may sing or alternate the verses of any Morning Hymn .

Hail to our God’s Anointed, Great David’s greater Son!

Hail in the time appointed, His reign on Earth begun!

He comes to break oppression, To set the captive free,

To take away transgression, And rule in equity.

He comes to free from suff’ring All those who suffer wrong;

To help the poor and needy, And bid the weak be strong.;

To give them songs for sighing, Their darkness turn to light,

Whose souls, both sick and dying, Are precious in God’s sight.

He shall come down like showers Upon the fruitful Earth;

And love, joy, hope, like flowers, Spring in his path to birth;

Before him on the mountains Shall peace, the herald go;

And righteousness in fountains, From hill to valley flow.

O’er every foe victorious, He on his throne shall rest,

From age to age more glorious, All blessing and all blest:

The tide of time shall never His covenant remove;

His Name shall stand forever: That Name to us is Love.

 Text: James Montgomery, 1821, alt.  Tune: CRUGER 76.76.D.

PSALMODY

Antiphon

Make music and sing among the peoples

Tell them of God’s powerful deeds.

Psalm 104/105: 1-15, 39-43

Give thanks to Love, acclaim the Name

tell all that Adonai has done.

Make music and sing among the peoples

God’s mighty deeds and wonders!

Revel in the holy Name!

Delight in seeking Adonai.

Look always for God’s strength and power,

the presence of Love in our world.

Recount the signs and wonders

the judgments and just decrees.

For God remembers the covenant,

the promise for a thousand generations,

the agreement made with Abraham and Sarah

and the oath sworn to Isaac and Rebekkah.

Confirmed with Jacob as a law

for Israel as a covenant forever:

“I give you a land to care for,

Canaan will be your inheritance.

They were only a few in number,

a handful of nomads in the land,

wandering from country to country,

from one realm and nation to another.

Love tolerated no oppression,

admonished kings and rulers on their account:

“Do not touch those I have anointed;

do no harm to any of my prophets.”

God spread a cloud to shield them by day

and led them by a pillar of fire by night.

Israel prayed so God sent quail,

and fed them with bread from heaven,

opened a rock to give them water,

streams gushed forth in the desert.

For God remembered the holy word,

the oath sworn to our mothers and fathers,

So God brought out our people with joy;

the chosen ones with shouts of rejoicing.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.

Make music and sing among the peoples

Tell them of God’s powerful deeds.

READING     Romans 13: 8-10

Sisters and Brothers, owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.  the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; you shall not steal; you shall not covet”; and any other commandment are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.

R. The command of Adonai is clear, *it gives light  to the eyes.  V. Those who love their neighbors have fulfilled the law; love is the fulfilling of the law. *it gives light  to the eyes.  V.  Glory to the Abba and the Word, and the Breath of Love.

Canticle of Zachary–  Luke 1:68-79

 Antiphon

In the morning, before dawn, Jesus got up, left the house

and went off to a lonely place to pray, alleluia.

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

and to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

In the morning, before dawn, Jesus got up, left the house
