Invitation to  Worship

Christ, our Love, who promised to send

us the Holy Spirit, Come, let us adore.  Alleluia!

O Holy One,+ open my lips.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created, alleluia;

~And You will renew the face of the Earth, alleluia!

Hymn for Novena to the Holy Spirit

Come down-, O Spi-rit, Love- Divine,

And fill the hearts- that you– have made;

Convert–, transform and pu–rify

The souls– of all- who- ask– your aid.

We beg- you, Ho-ly Pa-raclete,

To check the rush- of pas–sion’s fires,

To melt the steel- of- har–dened hearts,

To fill– our wills- with- your– desires.

Baptis-mal grace- brought you- to dwell

In mortal tem-ples, hearts– of clay;

Depose– the idols throned– therein

And prompt– us by- your- grace– to pray. Amen.

PSALMODY

Antiphon

John Baptized with water, but

you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 35/36b

Your love, Adonai, reaches to heaven;

your truth soars among the clouds.

Your justice towers like a mountain;

your integrity runs deeper than the sea.

You protect all creatures, all of life:

Adonai, how we prize your compassion!

In you, the people seek shelter,

safe in the warmth beneath your wings.

All feast at the abundance of your table,

slake their thirst in your refreshing streams,

for in you is the source of life

you give us light and we can see.

Continue your kindness toward all you have chosen

and your justice to all who are honest.

Keep the arrogant from trampling your little ones,

assaulting us with wicked hands and frozen hearts.

For those who do not love will collapse,

defeated, they will never rise.

Glory to the One and to the Word

and to the Breath of Love,

as always before, so now and evermore. Amen.

John Baptized with water, but

you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit, Alleluia, Alleluia!

READING  ACTS 1: 15-22

During those days Peter stood up in the midst of the assembly (there was a group of about one hundred and twenty persons in the one place). He said, “My sisters and brothers, the scripture had to be fulfilled which the holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus. For it is written in the Book of Psalms: ‘May another take his office.’ Therefore, it is necessary that one of those who accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus came and went among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day on which he was taken up from us, become with us a witness to his resurrection.”

Responsory

R.  I will send the Comforter to you, the Spirit of truth, alleluia, alleluia!  V. The Spirit will declare to you the things that are to come * alleluia, alleluia!  V.  Glory to the Abba and the Word and the Holy Breath of Love.

Canticle of Zachariah

Antiphon

Ask and you shall receive that your joy may be complete.

For our Abba indeed loves you,

since you have loved me and have believed,  Alleluia!

Blessed + be Adonai, the God of Israel,

Who visits this people to set us free

Raising for us a sign of salvation

In the house and family of David.

God promised throughout past ages

In words of holy prophets

To save us from our enemies,

And from the control of our oppressors.

Adonai favored our ancestors

And remembered the sacred covenant.

The pledge to Abraham and Sarah

Is now renewed for us;

That freed from the grip of our foes

We might worship without fear

And be both just and holy

For the rest of our days.

And you, child, called “prophet of the Most High,”

Will go ahead to prepare the way,

By teaching this people of salvation

Through forgiveness of their sins.

For the loving compassion of the Holy One

As the Rising Sun will shine upon us

To illumine the darkness and dispel death’s shadow

To guide our feet on the way of peace.

Glory to the ONE and to the WORD

And to the BREATH of Love!

As always before,

so now and evermore.  Amen

Ask and you shall receive that your joy may be complete.

For our Abba indeed loves you,

since you have loved me and have believed,  Alleluia!
